Originating Idea- children have a lot of energy and enjoy challenges and moving their bodies in fun ways 

Curriculum Area- physical development and health, KDI 16 gross motor skills: Children demonstrate strength, flexibility, balance, and timing in using their large muscles 

Materials- cones, hula hoops, tape, tunnels, mats, chairs, jump rope 

Appropriate Age group- PreK 

Beginning of Activity- we all love to run, jump, and move our bodies but there is a time and place for it! Today we are going to do a obstacle course! 

Middle of Activity- children move through different parts of the obstacle course

Early: walking the course, holding a hand through parts of the course 

Middle: showing the movement, encouraging children to mimic the movements with reminders 

Later: adding more movements (hopping on one foot, skipping)

8. Activity name- playdough  

Originating Idea- there are many steps before children are able to hold pencils and write, working on fine motor skills helps build the muscles in their hands 

Curriculum Area- physical development and health, KDI 17 Fine-motor skills: Children demonstrate dexterity and hand eye coordination in using their small muscles. 

Materials- playdough, rollers, shapes, cutters, playdough scissors, stamps 

Appropriate Age group- PreK 

Beginning of Activity- today we are going to be using playdough! 

Middle of Activity- children will use their hands and playdough, they can cut, roll, squeeze, cut, stamp, and explore they playdough while strengthen their hand muscles

Early: squeezing playdough, using larger tools to manipulate playdough 

Middle: rolling, cutting, using both hands 

Later: making shapes with playdough, making letters with playdough 

End of Activity- children can compare what they made with other children's creations, sharing what they did to make their playdough

  • Giving smaller tools 
  • Giving pencils for children to write on playdough

9. Activity name- germs, germs, go away 

Originating Idea- a child was struggling to understand why she needed to wash their hands after sneezing on them.

Materials- paint, soap, water, sink, paper towel 

Appropriate Age group- PreK 

Beginning of Activity- today were going to be learning how to get germs off of our hands 

Middle of Activity- everybody put your hands out were going to spray germs on to your hands

Early: helping wash hands, turning on water, applying soap 

Middle: reminding children to scrub for 30 seconds 

Later: make a sign that says wash your hands 

End of Activity- having students draw the steps of washing hands 

Follow-up Ideas- 

  • Create a bathroom sign step by step on how to wash hands 
  • Have children go home and teach someone else how to wash their hands
