Originating Idea- children love hearing, looking at, and reading stories, so this will help with their understanding and retelling of stories 

Curriculum Area- language, literacy, and communication, KDI 21 comprehension: Children understand language. 

Materials- book, picture cards from the book 

Appropriate Age group- PreK 

Beginning of Activity- today we are going to read one of my favorite stories, and then we are going to test our remembering skills! 

Middle of Activity- reading story with the class, after showing the picture cards and having children work together to put the cards in order of the story.

Early: using questions to prompt thinking, rereading parts of the story 

Middle: asking what happenes next, encourage them to talk through their thinking 

Later: fully retelling the story, adding ideas to the story 

End of Activity- comparing our story card line to the actual story

Originating Idea- children love to explore the classroom and also love a challenge 

Curriculum Area- language, literacy, and communication, KDI 25 Alphabetic knowledge: Children identify letter names and their sounds. 

Materials- letter cards, classroom 

Appropriate Age group- PreK 

Beginning of Activity- today we are going to use our eyes and hunt for letters around the classroom 

Middle of Activity- children will look for letters around the classroom, each child find 3

Early: finding one letter, reminding child of what letter they found 

Middle: naming letters 

Later: finding letters from their name, saying letter sounds 

End of Activity- ask for letters one by one and going over letter names and sounds together

Beginning of Activity- today we are going to draw and write about our favorite part of the school day! 

Middle of Activity- children can draw, and write words about their day

Early: encourage drawing, letters 

Middle: writing name, labeling (block) 

Later: drawing multiple parts of the day, writing sentences, sounding out words  

End of Activity- children can add their page to a classroom book and look through everyone's favorite parts of the day
